Whenever a prominent prize-giving event draws close, there’s always a demand to include fresh award types to acknowledge unsung work and satisfy the hearts of fans who have specialized interests.
Another commentator previously argued for a horror game category. It would be amazing. So would board games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: We need an award type for logic-based games.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and it will always spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that movie academies don’t do it. But it is an essential concession within the realm of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they hardly constitute a single creative category.
To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.
Present Award Structure
Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these award types successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, all very different: structural challenges from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.
The Representation Problem
Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, except when they manage to fit for categories like Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything during that awards season
- Another imaginative release received no nominations that year
- Popular arranging title was overlooked in 2021
- Limited numbers of logic titles managed to sneak into niche award types
Value of Brain-Teasers
Frequently they represent small games, however the design of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as the most-played games in the world continuing this trend for over a decade.
The legendary block-stacking game rivals well-known building titles for the title of highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent so many good games out.
And to reiterate, these represent titles without proper classification in important events. Logic title developers function at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. We shouldn't delay generations.
